First I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who stuck around while we moved home-offices. It’s been a bigger undertaking than I ever imagined it would be, but it’s time to get back into the nitty gritty of running this business, regardless of the piles of boxes around me. Because we’ve had two pretty exciting developments while we were quiet the last couple months.

Recently, I joined the LGBTQ Notary Association. This is an opportunity for folks to find notaries who are educated on LGBTQ+ topics, who understand on a deeper level why someone’s ID and daily style may be out of sync, and who are committed to not just non-discrimination but ANTI-discrimination. It’s an important milestone for me to be able to showcase this in my notary care services.

The highlight of the summer: I am honored to have been invited to join the Board of Directors for the Michigan Notary Association. MINA’s mission of notary education is so important to ensuring the public is getting the service they deserve. We get training on every job we’ve ever had; shouldn’t there be training available when we sign an oath saying we will serve to the best of our ability? Shouldn’t someone be teaching us the laws we’re supposed to follow and understand? Sure, there are lots of signing agent classes out there that teach us all kinds of jobs we can do with out notary commission, but until recently none were serving up Michigan-specific general basic notary education. Thanks to MINA I got that education, and I’m grateful for an opportunity to give back to the people and community who took the time to educate me; to give a hand up to notaries coming up behind me so they can have an easier time scaling the learning curve and giving great customer service.

This summer in business mentoring: Our resident artist has been working on perfecting their LEGO building skills and helping (albeit reluctantly) with the moving process. Their big goal for the summer is to get a lemonade & art stand set up so we will be doing that THIS SUNDAY August 10. Mark your calendars! (You can also subscribe to the On My Way Michigan Events calendar so you don’t miss events like this in the future.)

As we go back to school, let’s get those forms in order. New grads headed to college may benefit from a power of attorney for their parents to do things like medical decisions and banking on their behalf. Travel forms and field trip forms occasionally need to be notarized and the bank doesn’t always accept them – if you can get there during banking hours. That’s where notary drop-in hours come in. This Saturday August 9, noon to 1pm, On My Way Michigan will be hosting Notary Drop-In Hour at Vertex Coffee in Ypsilanti. Your Neighborhood Helper will also be back selling art & fidgets to raise money for their art computer. Future drop-in hours will be announced soon!
